Belonging to No 77 Squadron RAF, crashed on 15th December 1940 after turning back from an operational sortie to bomb Berlin due to suffering an engine failure. The Whitley was circling it's base at Topcliffe when it experience bad weather over the moors and crashed into high ground.

Belonging to No 434 Squadron RAF, crashed on 18th March 1944 while returning to it's base at RAF Croft after taking part in a mine laying operation in the Heligoland area. The aircraft was descending through clouds when it struck the moor.

Belonging to No 567 Squadron RAF, crashed on 16th September 1945 after entering cloud while returning to it's base at RAF Manston after taking part in a Battle of Britain display at RAF Acklington.
