Fortress FL455 of 519 Sqn took off from Wick at 09:30 on 1st February 1945, for a routine met reconnaissance flight. While on the return leg of the sortie about 4 hours north of Wick the aircraft encountered snow and ice which persisted for the rest of the flight. The Aircraft was heard flying over it's base at Wick and was given a course to fly but at 20:40 it crashed on moorland near Loch Rangag. Of the 9 on board 4 were killed instantly and two died later of their injuries.

Belonging to No 331 Sqn RAF. Crashed on August 27th 1941 after colliding with Hurricane Z5866 while practice Dogfighting over Lybster. The Pilot of Z5145 baled out while Z5866 made it back to their base at Castletown minus its rudder and elevators.
