Short Sunderland W4026

Based at RAF Oban the Sunderland was sent to RAF Inverrgordon to Pick up HRH The Duke of Kent and his staff to take them to Rekjavik in Iceland. Shortly after takeoff from Invergorden the Sunderland encountered bad weather and strayed off course resulting in a collision with high ground.

Crashed on 30th April 1941 while returning to RAF Wick after taking part in an anti U-Boat patrol.

Crashed on 2nd February 1966 while on a training flight from RAF Bruggen. Having flown from Germany at High Level the Aircraft descended to low level as it reached Scotland. It collided with the lower slopes of Sron Garbh while flying in cloud.
