Belonging to 1658 Heavy Conversion Unit. Crashed on the night of 23rd/24th November 1943 after encountering severe weather while taking part in a night cross country training exercise. The investigation into the crash found that the aircraft had begun breaking up before it hit the ground and had lost it's port outer wing and both outboard engines. On the same night Halifax DT578 crashed into Great Whernside while taking part in the same exercise.(see here)
