B-17E 41-9051 of the 813th BS / 482nd BG USAAF, crashed on Skiddaw near Keswick, on the 14th September 1943
Belonging to the 813th BS/482nd BG USAAF, crashed on 14th September 1943 while on a cross country navigation training flight from Alconbury to RAF Turnhouse near Edinburgh. It is believed that the the crew thought they were further north than they were and started a decent into Turnhouse through cloud culminating in the B17 colliding with the side of Skiddaw.
